Students eligible to attend St. Joseph's School for the Deaf must have a documented hearing loss, be between the ages of 0 to 14 years and live in New York.
- An audiogram from students seeking admission is reviewed by the State Education Department to determine eligibility for assessment

- Eligible students are evaluated in areas such as: academic ability, social/emotion maturing, speech and hearing, etc.
|
- The local school district, parent and St. Joseph's School for the Deaf representatives review assessment results to determine appropriate school placement
|
- If determined as appropriate, the State Education Department will appoint the child to St. Joseph's School for the Deaf.
